Smart Logistics: The Much-Awaited Change

Share this:

An imminent shift toward Smart Logistics heralds a transformative phase in the global logistics arena. Driven by a dire need for environmentally conscious practices. The ongoing surge in E-commerce is fueling the rapid growth of land logistics. In 2021, the global automotive logistics market was valued at $241.7 billion, set to reach $433.6 billion by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 6.1% from 2022 to 2031.

The escalating demand for sustainable and efficient solutions underscores the pivotal role of technology in revolutionizing the movement of goods and services. As online orders soar, replacing fuel-dependent vehicles with sustainable alternatives becomes more pressing to ensure a sustainable future.

The conventional complexities and bottlenecks in logistics are undergoing a significant transformation with the integration of EVs. This is where Fyn Mobility comes in. At Fyn, we are laying the groundwork for an EV ecosystem in logistics.

This paradigm shift toward Smart Logistics aims to revolutionize the movement of goods and services by addressing inefficiencies and environmental concerns and meeting evolving consumer expectations. It embodies a realm where technology, sustainability, and efficiency converge, reshaping conventional supply chain management paradigms.

Grasping the Current Dynamics

The logistics industry is plagued by transparency issues and inefficiencies, and traditional systems’ dependencies have grappled with multifaceted challenges. With the advent of EVs offering a viable solution. Businesses actively seek ways to streamline operations, cut costs, and reduce environmental footprints.

Central to Smart Logistics is the transition from fossil fuel-driven vehicles to EVs. This shift is driven by the desire for sustainability and a significant reduction in carbon emissions and environmental footprints and further catalyzed by global green energy initiatives.

Fyn – Redefining EV as a Service for Last-Mile Logistics:

Initiated in 2014 at IIT Madras, Fyn Mobility initially ventured into EV manufacturing. The surging demand from the E-commerce and grocery sectors amid the pandemic accentuated the urgency for EVs in the logistics industry. Aligning with the Indian government’s push for a 100% green delivery mandate by 2030, Fyn pivoted toward an

EV-as-a-service model, leveraging its profound EV manufacturing expertise.

Recognizing the limitations of conventional logistics methods in the fast-paced Last-mile industry. Fyn identified opportunities to streamline the deployment and demand processes. This led to the creation of a comprehensive platform that brings together EVs,

charging networks, and stakeholders for transparency and informed decision-making.

Fyn Mobility has revolutionized logistics by developing an EV ecosystem platform, integrating IoT, real-time tracking, and predictive maintenance into their smart EV fleet. Currently in use by the Fyn operations team and riders through an app, this platform tracks delivery metrics, rider data, attendance, and payouts.

“We’ve recently initiated the introduction of our Clients and Finance segment of the Platform to a specific group of clients for beta testing. Following this phase, we’ll refine its functionalities before a complete rollout across the entirety of the EV ecosystem.”

Fyn Mobility pioneers the Smart Logistics Revolution:

Fyn Mobility, led by Visakh Sasikumar, established a distinctive presence in EV-driven last-mile logistics solutions, introducing an asset-light EV fleet, and actively developing an EV ecosystem platform. This proactive shift toward EV-as-a-service transformed the logistics sector and addressed critical industry challenges. Driven by a deep understanding of EV manufacturing, Fyn tailored a slow-speed 2−wheeler EV for logistics based on client feedback and the need for a ‘Made in India’ logistics EV, slated for mass production.

Fyn Mobility’s Bold Venture into Fast Charging Technology:

Recognizing the value of every minute in the industry, we took a bold step in fast charging technology, enabling EVs to achieve a full charge within 15 minutes. This innovation significantly boosts vehicle availability for extended shifts, generating 1.8× more revenue per EV compared to slow-charging or conventional ICE 3−wheelers.

Environmental Impact and High Utilization:

Focusing on high EV utilization not only boosts revenues but also drastically reduces carbon footprint by minimizing the number of vehicles on the road, thereby contributing to lower associated manufacturing emissions.

Challenges and Solutions:

While Smart Logistics faces hurdles such as initial infrastructural investments and change management in traditional logistics, innovative technologies, and government support for

sustainable practices offer solutions.

Smart Logistics isn’t just a term but a transformative force redefining global trade and commerce. Fyn Mobility’s role in this evolution stands as a testament to innovation, knowledge, and unwavering commitment to change. The world awaits this significant transformation, shaping a future with Smart Logistics.

Fyn’s ongoing contributions to Indian last-mile logistics can be summarized below:

1. Revolutionary Platform: Our seamless stakeholder platform and cutting-edge EV

technology redefines logistics, ensuring unmatched efficiency.

2. End-to-end digitization unlocks unparalleled last-mile logistics efficiencies.

3. Tech platform and in-house IoT devices standardized the entire fleet, allowing cross-utilization with keyless entry.

4. With India’s largest fast charging fleet, we achieve cross-utilization of EVs in two shifts, setting new utilization benchmarks for logistics.

The Road ahead:

Strategic Focus on Innovation and Expansion in the EV Logistics Ecosystem Given our EV manufacturing background, we are always on the lookout for the best-in-class EV for Logistics. Our R&D team has built a first-of-its-kind smart logistics 2−wheeler EV that checks all the boxes for the kind of requirements we deal with. We would

expand our revenues through the deployment of these EVs and also by setting up our own EV charging and parking facilities.

We are always experimenting and adding new vehicles (designed in-house by our R&D team or procured via partnerships with OEMs)that can add value to the business and our clients. We specialize in understanding EVs owing to our EV manufacturing background.

This enables us to thoroughly test all the EVs we intend to use in our fleets before we deploy them to our clients.

The next five years are very critical for any startup engaged in the EV sector as these are the formative years that will decide the path of the EV ecosystem. This would mean we will direct investments towards building a robust EV ecosystem platform, conduct intensive

Research and development in the manufacturing and testing of smart EVs for logistics, innovations in battery efficiency and chemistries, and setting up universal charging and parking infrastructure.

We will also be directing our investments to scale our fleets & business to new geographies, vertical integration, and business expansion.

The Path Forward: Smart Logistics for a Smarter Future:

As logistics continues to evolve, integrating technology and sustainability is reshaping the industry. Promising operational efficiencies and a greener and smarter future.
